Dangerous incident in London shows why we need guards on trains

A recent incident in London where a woman was dragged along a platform after getting her hand caught in a door is another reminder of the dangers of driver only operation.

Luckily, according to media reports the woman was able to free herself from the door and a more serious accident was narrowly averted.

As drivers, we know that guards play an essential role in helping to avoid incidents like this from happening in the first place and assisting when dangerous situations do arise.

We’ll continue to oppose the NSW Government’s plans for DOO operation on the new intercity fleet until they can prove that it’s 100 per cent safe for members and the travelling public.
