Andy’s strong showing at Arnold Classic
Central Driver Andrew Hargreaves recently travelled to Melbourne to compete in the Pro Raw Powerlifting competition at this year’s Arnold Classic.
The event consists of three attempts at three lifts: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. Competitors best lifts are then totalled giving an overall score for the contest to determine the winner.
Motivated after seeing online videos of competitors moving seemingly impossible amounts of weight Andy started training specifically for competitive Powerlifting in January 2014; normally training 4 days a week for 2-3 hours each session.
Andrew’s recent showing at the Arnold classic is his greatest achievement in the sport to date, managing a 360kg squat, 207.5kg bench and 332.5kg deadlift giving him an impressive total of 900kg. This result gives Andy a place in the all time Australian top 20.
Andy continues training and strives to one day reach the elusive 1000kg plus total; a goal reached by very few lifters.
Training out of PTC Sydney Andy encourages anyone who may be interested to come down to the gym and check it out. “Despite how it may look there are plenty of friendly people inside.
